With cell phones and vehicles capable of roadside assistance calls, it may seem silly to have a roadside emergency kit but really it doesn’t hurt to be prepared for that time that your phone won’t work or you have to wait a period of time before help arrives. Here are some helpful tips on how to create your very own DIY roadside emergency kit.

A basic roadside emergency kit should include the following items:
- Jumper cables or a lithium-ion battery with jumper cables

- Flares or triangle reflectors
- A quart or more of motor oil
- A gallon of coolant
- First-aid kit
- Blanket
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- Tool kit
- Can of tire inflator and sealant
- Tire pressure gauge
- Paper towels
- Spray bottle with washer fluid
- Ice scraper
- Pen and paper
- Granola or energy bars
- Bottled water
After you have gathered all the items that belong in your roadside emergency kit, keep all of the items together in either a container, box or backpack. Next step is to familiarize yourself with some of the items in your kit.
