Fuel economy scores for the 2018 Ford Expedition

We are officially in the part of the year where many of us feel we can’t have a moment to ourselves. Holiday parties, get-togethers and several other season-appropriate events will be keeping lots of people on the road. Our manufacturing partners at Ford have recently released the fuel economy scores for the 2018 Ford Expedition. Not only can the new full-size SUV fit just about everyone in the family and be filled with lots of presents, it is also the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its class. Nothing from Chevy, Nissan or Toyota can come close to fitting as many people in its cabin and deliver them using so little gas.

“The all-new Expedition fits eight people comfortably and can carry all of their luggage, while keeping everyone connected and entertained,” Todd Hoevener, Ford Expedition chief engineer who has already opted to drive his family – including his two six-foot-something sons – from Michigan to Clearwater, Florida, this Christmas, said in a press release. “It’s really the ultimate road trip vehicle.”

Expedition efficiency scores vs. Competition

Looking at two-wheel drive versions of the 2018 Ford Expedition, the Environmental Protection Agency has given the rugged, yet refined SUV an efficiency score of 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. We have included a table to show how the new Expedition stands up to its fiercest competition.

Model City MPG Hwy MPG Difference
Chevy Suburban 16 23 -1
Chevy Tahoe 16 23 -1
Nissan Armada 14 19 -4
Toyota Sequoia 13 17 -5

Why is the Expedition so efficient?

Normally, a company showing this much of a lead over a competitor in any area would want to keep that a secret forever. Ford is incredibly proud of this accomplishment and is letting everyone who will listen know why the 2018 Expedition uses so little gas. Behind the scenes (or under the hood) of the 2018 Ford Expedition is the automaker’s EcoBoost® system. For the most part, EcoBoost® is just the name Ford uses for its turbocharging technology. Adding this feature to its aluminum 3.5-liter, V-6 engine allows the 2018 Expedition to better balance performance and capability alongside its class-leading efficiency. There is no doubt the newly developed 10-speed automatic transmission also plays an important role.
