One big bonus of going with the Ford F-150 is that you will typically also be offered a range of engine options to choose from. For a while now, people have been wonderful if we could see a diesel engine making an appearance under the hood of the F-150. With the all-new 2018 F-150, Ford decided to change some things up in the engine department — including offering a new diesel engine!
What engines are available in the 2018 Ford F-150?
There are a total of five available engines for the 2018 Ford F-150, which includes — for the first time — a diesel engine. The diesel engine is a 3.0L Power Stroke that will come paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, we currently don’t know too much about engine specs, efficiency ratings, or work capabilities — but we’d expect the diesel engine in the 2018 F-150 to have a good showing in all three categories.
Another new engine for the 2018 F-150 is a 3.3L V6, which is replacing the 3.5L V6 from the previous generation. The new 3.3L engine will use direct-injection for increased efficiency and has 282 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque, just like the previous V6.
EcoBoost engines in the 2018 Ford F-150
The EcoBoost engines are the stars of the F-150 and all-new versions of the current offerings will be returning for the 2018 F-150. The 2.7L EcoBoost is expected to be the go-to for a fuel efficient ride, while the 3.5L EcoBoost is the perfect option for heavy towing and efficiency — though we’re interested to see how the diesel compares here.
Is there a V8 in the 2018 F-150?
And, of course, you can also get the 2018 F-150 with a 5.0L V8 engine. The V8 on the current gen F-150 is able to achieve the highest payload rating, and it will come paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission for 2018.
