Is Ford making a new Bullitt Mustang?
The Ford Mustang is already one of the most impressive and popular high-performance cars ever to hit the road. But the 1968 Ford Mustang GT driven by Steve McQueen through the streets of San Francisco in the movie, “Bullitt” is easily the most famous of them all. Mustang fans can’t see one wearing paint that even remotely resembles Highland Green without their hearts skipping a beat or two. Rumors of Ford making a new Bullitt Mustang have been floating around the internet for a few months now, but a recent entry over at AutoBlog seems to lend this idea more credence.

According to AutoBlog, they have received some images of what appears to be a 2018 Ford Mustang in the Highland Green filming a commercial on the streets of Chicago. Like an automotive sasquatch, the photos are dimly lit and a bit on the grainy side. However, they also describe the car as possible having all of the elements in place to have it be a faithful recreation. Some additional evidence could be that 2018 would mark the 50th anniversary of the film’s release.
If there is anything to really get excited about, it’s that auto show season is underway kicking off last week in Los Angeles. That means that the North American International Auto Show in Detroit is just a few weeks away and Ford is no stranger to making huge announcements in its own backyard.
