What is different about the 2019 Ford Edge ST?
Heritage Ford is just getting into the meaty part of the 2018 model year, but our manufacturing partner is already teasing an exciting new model for next year. In Ford parlance, the ST designation represents a vehicle with higher performance scores than the base model as well as offering several other up-tuned components and system. Starting with the next model year, the automaker’s Edge crossover SUV will be joining the high-performance family. So, what is different about the 2019 Ford Edge ST? Quite a bit, including a more powerful engine, sport-tuned suspension and all-wheel-drive offered as standard equipment. According to information from Ford, the new Edge ST should be delivered to showrooms starting this summer.
“Edge ST puts a new animal on the road – a performance SUV with a track mentality,” Hau Thai-Tang, executive vice president of Product Development and Purchasing said in a press release. “From a performance standpoint, and with its SUV silhouette and versatility, it sets a new standard Edge fans will love to drive.”
2019 Edge ST performance specs
Obviously, the big story around the introduction of the 2019 Ford Edge ST is going to be what is installed under the hood. Ford is wasting no time in making sure that the new crossover SUV has one of the most powerful V-6 engines in its class. In fact, the twin-turbocharged, 2.7-liter, V-6 can make 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent from that powerful turbocharged engine to all four wheels via a quick and precise eight-speed automatic transmission.
Ford is further doubling down on the performance aspect of the new Edge ST with a driver-selectable Sport Mode that will give the crossover SUV a more aggressive throttle response and automatically adjust the transmission to keep the engine running closer to the upper end of its RPM range.

There is no doubt that the 2019 Ford Edge ST is going to be fast and agile once it arrives at dealerships’ showrooms. It will also come with everything it needs to be one of the smartest vehicles in its class. In 2019, the Edge (as a platform) will introduce post-collision braking, steering assist to help drivers avoid collisions and adaptive cruise control. Anyone riding in the 2019 Edge will be able to stay connected to the outside world with the automaker’s high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot that can be used by up to 10 devices simultaneously.
