What Documents Should You Bring when Trading a Vehicle?
Documents to Bring when Trading in a Vehicle
If you’re looking to replace your current vehicle with either a new or used model, and want to trade in your model, you need to bring a variety of documentation. These range in importance and need, but there are a few documents you should definitely bring with you. Continue reading below in order to find out what these documents are!
Car’s Title
You won’t be able to trade in your vehicle without bringing in your title. The title is one of the most important pieces of documentation you can bring, and you should always have it ready. If your title also has a secured party listing, you should make sure to bring in the payoff letter, or get a 10-day payoff amount, from the lender as well.
Registration
In addition to your vehicle’s title, you will likely also have to bring in a registration. This is especially true if you’re in a state that requires you to have a current copy of the registration when you’re transferring the license plate of your current vehicle to a new one. You should get in touch with the local DMV or similar organization to make sure you’re up to date with this documentation.
Service Records
If the car’s been well kept and maintained properly, you might not need these service records. However, if you’ve had a few instances of moderate to major servicing, the service records of the model should definitely be brought into the trade-in.
