 
Vermont State Park’s Best Family Camping
Now that the weather is finally getting nicer and we are quickly approaching summer, it can only mean one thing. Camping! Honestly who doesn’t love to go camping? Bonfires, s’mores, swimming, hiking and enjoying the night’s sky, what could be better? Vermont offers some of the best state parks, well in our opinion, and so we have made a list of some of the best campgrounds in the Burlington, VT area. So pack up the kids or grab some friends and plan a fun weekend getaway at one of these great camping locations.
Half Moon Pond State Park in Hubbardton, VT
Located just an hour and a half from Burlington, Half Moon Pond State Park is small in size and surrounds the quiet Half Moon Pond. The park offers a great number of trails to enjoy, varying in length. You can rent rowboats, kayaks, canoes and pedal boats or you can enjoy two small sandy beaches for great swimming. The pond also offers great fishing, where you will catch panfish, yellow perch, largemouth bass and rainbow trout.
Elmore State Park in Elmore, VT
This state park is only an hour from Burlington and is located on the shore of Lake Elmore. Elmore State Park has a large sandy beach with available boat rentals and a snack bar. The lake is great for canoeing or kayaking, and while you are out on the water you can explore a hidden little waterway. This campground is great for everything, there are nice grassy areas to enjoy picnics or a game of volleyball.
Grand Isle State Park in Grand Isle, VT
This state park is located on the largest island in Lake Champlain and is only 30 minutes from Burlington. Swimming, biking and paddling are all popular activities on the island and the park has daily programs and special events going on. Nearby, you can explore the world’s oldest fossil reef and the nation’s oldest log cabin, and a fish hatchery. Grand Isle State Park has great trails and incredible scenery.
Stillwater State Park in Groton, VT
An hour and 20 minutes from Burlington, this state park is part of the 26,000 acre Groton Forest and is located on the shores of Lake Groton. Stillwater State Park is known for its great family programs and during your stay you can enjoy a bike parade, pancake breakfast and much more. You can enjoy great hiking through the forest with trails for all levels and you may even see a Moose, as they are pretty common at Stillwater.
